Nassau County Microbiologist Dean Hart On Pix 11 Explains How Germs Spread

Recently Dr. Dean Hart Nassau County Microbiologist was on Pix 11 New York explaining how Germs Spread. The topic of discussion was specifically about COVID-19 and how easily it spreads.

Dean Hart studies microscopic life forms and processes. He is the writer and author on the Transmission Of Viruses & Diseases. His many years studying viruses has lead him to be an expert on the topic. Dean Evan Hart weighs in How Germs Spread On Pix 11 and shares tips on the prevention of contracting the virus through the use of good hygiene.

We understand that coronavirus can spread through coughing, sneezing and new research shows it can be passed from talking or possibly even just breathing.

“The way the virus gets into our body is through the mucus membranes of our eyes, nose, mouth and ears” he told Pix 11. He goes onto to mention that it does not go through your hands or your skin. The virus enters the mucus membranes of your body. That is a passageway for a virus to travel into your body.

Dr. Dean Hart did a simulation on Pix 11 showing how germs spread by sprinkling non-toxic powder on the news reporters hands. This simple demonstration is an elementary school biomechanics experiment. The powder shows how many things you touch and spread your germs and bacteria. The experiment is to show how the mucus membranes is the way the Coronavirus particles get through to your body.

Dr. Dean Hart shows the importance of washing hands and to keep your hands away from your eyes, nose and mouth as much as possible when you come in contact with contaminated surfaces.

Most of this is simple hygiene but during a time like this, it is important to pay more attention to being clean.

After 40 minutes, Dean checks in with the news reporters to track how their spreading germs in the newsroom. This experiment is to showcase the importance of hand washing. “This is example of how a viral particles will spread” Dr. Dean Hart said.

What we can take from this demonstration is the how important hand washing is in eliminating viral transmission. Of course, hand washing doesn’t prevent the spread of viral particles when someone sneezes or coughs in the air and that’s why it is important to social distance.

Dean Hart believes no soap is better than the other. Whether you use regular soap or anti-bacteria soap, it is the mechanical nature of how you wash your hands.

Microbiologist Dean Hart Of Long Island also shares his thoughts on clinical drug trials for COVID-19 and antibody testing. Social distancing is something he believes strongly in and feels it is the only treatment we can do right now to help prevent the spread of Coronavirus until a vaccine is released.
